Illustration of One Wall Street. The rippled limestone zig-zagged skyscraper in New York's Financial District.

The Irving Trust Company building (One Wall Street)was designed by Ralph Thomas Walker, a pioneer in the New York skyscraper aesthetic. Built during the ravaging years of the Great Depression. (1929-1931)

The double-height lobby has a red and gold ombré mosaic-tiled mural by Hildreth Meière. It was once considered "one of the most costly and beautiful pieces of mural decoration ever attempted in the United States." The building's penthouse observatory still sports the original gold-colored ceiling made entirely of seashells from the Philippines.

In 1931 it reigned as the 10th tallest skyscraper in the world. It remains one of the finest Art Deco-style skyscrapers in the city.
